Icarus Kastellanos is a Deaf mortician in training at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, dedicated to guiding families through the passing of their loved ones. A Hellenic Reconstructionist for seven years, he has spent the last five years studying Greco-Egyptian γοητεία (goēteia). His journey with Hekate began six years ago, drawn to her vast epithets, power, and protective nature. As a Hiereus of Hekate Trioditis and Hekate Apotropaia, as well as Hermes Dotor Eaon, he teaches about Hekate and Hermes, ancient funeral rites, and Greco-Egyptian magic. Working in the funeral industry, he collaborates daily with Hermes as a psychopomp and binding god, leading rites of passage and honoring the dead. Before dedicating himself to death care, Icarus Kastellanos worked as a medical professional, serving as a phlebotomist and clinical allergy specialist. In this role, he honored Asklepios, the god of healing, by aiding the living through diagnostics and treatment. However, he felt a deeper calling beyond medicine—a path that would allow him to guide souls and comfort the grieving. Embracing his devotion to Hekate Khthonia and Hermes Khthonios, he transitioned to the funeral industry, where he could serve both the dead and their loved ones. Through this work, he bridges the worlds of the living and the departed, offering care not just for the body, but for the soul’s journey beyond.
